As part of Quilts at the Creek 2013, we held a quilt challenge. The challenge was to create a quilt based on the theme, “Quilts at the Creek”. The winner was selected by viewers voting for their favourite. Here are the entries…
This quilt captures the old-fashioned atmosphere of Black Creek. The squares in this quilt are Japanese fabrics, purchased in Japan. They looked beautiful with the dark navy background fabric. The quilting thread is also Japanese. Most of the quilt was made by hand. Entry by Mary Wahl.
This quilt is based on a photo taken at last year’s show. It attempted to capture the freshness of the setting, and features two of the many people who worked hard to make the show a success. Entry by Valerie Prideaux.
This quilt is a whimsical interpretation of the first Quilts at the Creek show. It features some of the buildings from the park, and quilts that Shirley Dawson, the quilter of this quilt, entered in this year’s show. This quilt overwhelmingly won viewer’s choice. Congratulations, Shirley!
