Looking Forward

It still feels like summer out there, and the Quilts at the Creek gang is busy planning for next year.

Guild visits: Are you a member of a quilt guild? We’d love to come and spend 10 minutes talking to your guild about our show, showing photos from previous years, encouraging more participation and distributing red and white fabric (donated by Northcott, while supplies last!). And of course if you’d like to be a part of the organizing committee, we’d love to have you. Contact Jane Cramer to book us!

Challenge: Next year we would like to see the park wrapped in red and white quilts, so dig into your stash. Northcott generously donated red and white fabric, and we are busy distributing it.. hope to see it in YOUR quilt next summer, whether modern, contemporary, scrappy or traditional. And because it is Canada’s 150th anniversary and Canadians are very generous people, we hope a lot of these quilts get donated to Quilts of Valour. These quilts are donated to injured Canadian Forces members, past and present. A very worthwhile cause. There will be a place on the application form to mark if this is where you want your quilt to go.

Workshops: In honour of our Canadiana theme, Cheryl Arkison will be giving workshops at Black Creek next summer. Stay tuned for more details on what she will be teaching. (I for one love the idea of her Words not War workshop!) Meanwhile, check out her blog. Cheryl is a quilt judge, mother, author of several books, and has designed a line of fabric coming out any day now.. busy!

Suggestions: We know we are not perfect, and are always looking for ways to improve our show.. we’d love to hear your suggestions, so email Valerie Prideaux with your ideas, and thanks for sharing. ¬†Anything from where to advertise, who you’d like to have teach workshops in future years, to .. whatever!

Meanwhile… here is a sneak peek at some of my reddish works-in-progress. Hopefully one or two will become full quilts and be on display next summer. I’d love to see what you are working on, so send me your pics!

VALERIE !!! What a wonderful suggestion to donate challenge quilts to Quilts of Valour. THANK YOU – Hopefully I won’t have to rent a U-Haul though (small joke). Virginia Rothwell
