Workshops 2016

We are thrilled to announce that we have booked Kathy Doughty for next summer’s workshops. She does some FABULOUS work, and has a new book coming out shortly.
We have expanded our workshop schedule to 5 days, and they are listed below. All workshops run from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm at Black Creek Pioneer Village. Registration is open, and class size is limited, so we urge you to sign up (payment required to hold your spot). We expect Kathy’s classes to fill up quickly. If you sign up for 2 of her classes, you receive a $25- discount on the second class. Email Sandy Lindal to reserve today.

Trunk Show:
In addition to the workshops, Kathy will be presenting a trunk show/ talk in the auditorium at North York Public Library  5120 Yonge St, North York, ON M2N 5N9. Conveniently located at the North York Centre subway station. This is scheduled for Wednesday July 20th, from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. We recommend you buy your ticket early, as space is limited. Wine and cheese available: wine $2- per glass.

The title of Kathy’s lecture is Mixing Elements.  It will cover a bit of her personal history and hone in on Mixing Elements.  There will also be a number of quilts to show and tell. And drool over, of course. We will be selling tickets at our booth at CreativFestival and Quilt Canada, although space is limited and tickets are selling fast. Tickets are also available right  now, mailed once we receive your cheque, from Sandy Lindal, and at York Heritage Quilters Guild April meeting.

Friday  July 22nd and Saturday July 23rd: “Mixing Elements” workshop. $250.00
The design you will be working on is Love Birds, a design from her soon-to-be released book. This book will be available May 1st 2016. This quilt is made using  a wedge ruler, and is one of her most popular classes.  She will also discuss her design “Wild Child” in her introduction, as it contains some similar elements.

NEW: Sunday July 24th 2016: “Modern Wedges” workshop. $150.00.

The Modern Wedge is an exciting workshop opportunity for beginners to advanced quilters. The workshop focus is on creative use of the wedge shape, exciting use of color and a variety of design options. By changing size, layout or use of color, we learn to move the eye and imagination around the quilt. Basic applique skills are also included. It is a fun and easy workshop that has something to offer everyone in regard to working with color, value, shape and design.

Traditional to modern quilters will enjoy the exercise of working outside the square with the wedge in quilt designs to make blocks, borders or stand alone designs.

    Hello,

Well I just finished finished 4 days with Kathy Doughty. Her class has elements that I did not know I was going to learn. I am a quilter who is not afraid to use colour, but with Kathy’s experience I she guided me in a direction that I did not know I was capable of doing.

I would like to thank Kathy Doughty for the experience. Your style is for everyone.

If anyone has a chance to take a workshop at Quilts at the Creek, you will not be disappointed by the quality of the teachers they choose.
